ANP anuncia décima semana consecutiva de queda no preço do diesel no Brasil

Driving in Brazil has become an increasingly restricted privilege due to the high prices of cars and fuel costs. However, Brazilian drivers received some good news from the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

For drivers who fuel their vehicles with diesel, there has been a fall in the price of the product, which has now become cheaper for the tenth consecutive week between April 9 and April 15. However, ethanol and gasoline prices did increase slightly.

The last time diesel prices rose in the country was at the end of January, which means that there have been more than two months without an increase in prices. This has been made possible by the federal tax exemption on the product, a decision made during the Bolsonaro government and extended by President Lula until the end of 2023.

Unfortunately, the good news does not extend to gasoline and ethanol. This is because the government ended the measure that reduced taxes on these two fuels at the beginning of March. Since then, prices have been increasing at the pumps, especially for gasoline.

According to ANP data, the average price of diesel in Brazilian gas stations fell by 0.17%, from R$ 5.84 to R$ 5.83 per liter. The survey was carried out between April 9 and April 15 in thousands of establishments throughout the country.

Considering the last ten weeks, the decrease amounts to 8.7%, or about R$ 0.56 per liter in relation to the price practiced at the end of January, when diesel cost R$ 6.39 per liter.

The reduction was 0.53% in the South, 0.35% in the Northeast, and 0.34% in the Southeast. In the other regions, there was an increase of 0.84% in the Midwest and 0.16% in the North. Check out the average fuel prices by region:

The ANP has not yet released the price survey for last week due to the Tiradentes holiday. However, information anticipated by the media shows that there was a new reduction in the price of diesel, which has now returned to pre-war levels in Ukraine.

According to the report, the fuel cost an average of R$ 5.76 per liter in the week ended April 22. In June 2022, it had reached a peak of R$ 7.57 per liter.

This decline in diesel prices has been welcomed by many Brazilians who have been struggling to cope with the high fuel costs. Diesel is the most consumed fuel in Brazil and is widely used for transportation, agriculture, mining, and powering generators.

However, the rise in gasoline and ethanol prices is still a major concern. Many families and businesses have been finding it increasingly difficult to pay for fuel, and this has been forcing them to cut back on essential expenses.

The government’s decision to end the tax reduction measure for gasoline and ethanol has been heavily criticized. Many experts believe that this measure was necessary considering the economic uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
