WhatsApp will be discontinued on over 40 cell phone models worldwide in May

WhatsApp to be discontinued on over 40 mobile devices worldwide from May

WhatsApp has become an integral part of people’s lives, whether for personal or professional use, and is currently the most popular messaging application. However, the app will be discontinued on 43 obsolete mobile phone models from 1 May. The full list of the phones affected can be found below.

Users of these phones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp for communication, prompting them to upgrade their devices in order to regain accessibility to the application. The list of phones was recently released by Meta, and the move has been much talked about in the media.

These phones range from Huawei Ascend G525 to Samsung Galaxy Grand, a number of Xiaomi models, LG Optimus L7 and LG Optimus G Pro, Motorola Moto G and Moto X, Sony Xperia E3 and Xperia Z1, and Lenovo S890, A6600, P70, and A858T, among others.

It is important to note that the announcement doesn’t involve the iPhone and any model of Android devices. This move has been attributed to the increasing demand on WhatsApp to support more devices.

WhatsApp has become an essential tool for those working remotely, with many organizations using it to communicate with their teams globally. This development is, therefore, a significant turning point for firms, and employees who still use older mobile devices.

However, the discontinuation of WhatsApp on these devices doesn’t come as a surprise, as it is a regularly occurring event. The company has continuously updated its software to require newer versions of Android or iOS to operate. This leaves older phones unable to enjoy the app and its developments.

WhatsApp’s future seems to be heading in the direction of increased privacy for its users, as well as more features. However, this means that the app will require more resources, so the app’s team will be unable to support older phone models. This is a good thing for more modern devices, but users of obsolete phones will need to upgrade if they want to continue using the app.

To conclude, it seems that WhatsApp’s user base will continue to grow, but not without some losses along the way. Users should keep an eye on any updates regarding their phones, in order to adapt to the requirements of the app. The upcoming changes show that users will need to upgrade their phones from time to time to keep up with the latest technologies.
