INSS Payments: Salaries, Pensions, and Benefits Begin On Last Week of April
Starting from April 24 to May 8, a total of 36 million people will begin to receive their payments for INSS salaries, pensions, and benefits. The amounts they receive this month will not have any changes, but there may be significant alterations in next month’s payments.
The reason for this lies in the fact that the national minimum wage will be adjusted, which will impact not only workers’ salaries but also their pension benefits. This means that every individual who receives a minimum INSS salary will have a raise.
The benefits that exceed the minimum wage will typically be adjusted annually based on the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) measure of inflation, meaning there will be no raise in this case.
The Connection between Minimum Wage and INSS
By law, the INSS minimum wage, also known as the lowest amount that an insured person can receive, cannot be lower than the national minimum wage. Therefore, when the national minimum wage is adjusted, pensions, salaries, and benefits are also modified.
Earlier this year, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) confirmed that the national minimum wage would increase from R $1,302 to R$1,320, equivalent to a R$ 18 increase in salary. The objective was to fulfill the promises made during Lula’s electoral campaign.
Starting from the payment calendar for May, the monthly salary beneficiaries of the INSS program will feel the pay raise. It is important to note that the raise will only be effective next month since the current payment dates include part of May, but the deposits are actually meant for April.
