“New Salary Minimum Could Mean Extra Cash for Unpaid PIS/Pasep Beneficiaries”

Many Brazilians have already received the PIS/Pasep benefit this year and withdrawn up to a minimum wage (R$ 1,302) between February and March. However, those who have not yet received the benefit may have an advantage over those who already have the money in their account.

This is because President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced a new increase in the minimum wage for May this year. As the maximum payment of the benefit must correspond to a national minimum wage in force, it is believed that the lots released after the change will be adjusted to match the new minimum.

The salary bonus is a benefit offered annually through the Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Public Servant Heritage Formation Program (Pasep). Here’s what to expect from your payment.

Minimum and PIS/PASEP adjustment

The government’s promise is to increase the country’s minimum wage from R$ 1,302 to R$ 1,320 on May 1, Labor Day. After that date, 12 PIS/Pasep lots will still be released, which means they can follow the correction.

Currently, PIS/Pasep pays from R$ 108.50 up to R$ 1,302, depending on the number of months worked in the base year (2021). If there is an adjustment in the amount, the benefit will offer between R$ 110 and R$ 1,320 per person.

Thus, groups that will receive the salary bonus after the increase in the minimum wage will have an advantage. The information regarding the correction has not yet been confirmed by the government, so it is necessary to wait.

Rules to receive

The PIS/Pasep bonus is paid to public service workers and public servants who meet four main requirements:

1. Be registered with PIS/Pasep for at least five years;
2. Have worked with a signed work card for at least 30 days, consecutive or not, in 2021;
3. Have received up to two minimum wages per month, on average, in 2021;
4. Have correct data in RAIS or e-Social sent by the employer.

More information about the benefit can be requested from Caixa Econômica Federal (PIS) or Banco do Brasil (Pasep). It is also possible to get informed through the Digital Work Portfolio application.
