A new bill is being processed in the Chamber of Deputies that may surprise Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) beneficiaries. BPC, provided for in the Organic Law for Social Assistance (LOAS), guarantees a monthly minimum wage to elderly individuals aged 65 or older or to individuals with disabilities of any age.
The proposed bill aims to double the benefit’s payment, specifically for individuals with disabilities, in the event of the parents’ death, absence, or removal of family power, according to the Agência Câmara de Notícias. Let’s take a closer look and understand how it will function.
This is one of the rights that low-income individuals in the country have, but it is important to meet the established criteria to apply, including proving that they do not have the means to provide for their own maintenance or have it provided by their family. Currently, beneficiaries receive a minimum wage.
It is important to note that only individuals aged 65 or older and persons with disabilities can apply for this resource. No minimum age is established in this case. Another important point to note is that BPC differs from retirement. It is an assistance benefit paid by the Federal Government.
The bill, authored by federal deputy Duarte Junior (PSB-MA), will still be referred for analysis by the Chamber’s committees. The author states that the absence of parents makes it even more challenging for individuals with disabilities to overcome, as they are responsible for creating, educating, and ensuring all necessary assistance.
Currently, the program assists several people, especially families that have a member who is a victim of a disability that prevents them from performing work functions that would bring them income.
Each person currently receives a minimum wage, but the value will undergo a readjustment of R$ 18 by the end of the month. This demonstrates the inflation in the country and the necessity to adapt government programs to meet the needs of the population.
Individuals with disabilities face numerous difficulties and require special care and attention, especially in the case of those whose parents have died, are absent, or have had their family power removed. This bill seeks to offer more support and assistance to these individuals, helping them to overcome these difficulties and live better lives.
It is essential to implement such measures that directly benefit the population, especially those with more limited perspectives in society. The government has an obligation to ensure that these individuals are not forgotten and that they receive the necessary care and support to live their lives fully.
Overall, the bill is a positive step forward in helping those most in need by providing greater assistance and support to individuals with disabilities. It is now up to the government to ensure that this assistance reaches those who need it most and that it is implemented effectively to improve the quality of life for all Brazilian citizens.
