“Disneyfying Brazilian Villains: Carminha and Nina Reimagined”

Brazilian Villains from Avenida Brasil Get a Disney Makeover

Anyone who followed the hit Brazilian soap opera Avenida Brasil back in 2012 knows why the villainous character Carminha became an iconic figure on television. Portraying both funny and tense moments, the character played by Adriana Esteves gained a lot of traction. But what if Carminha existed in a Disney animation? A talented digital artist shows us what she would look like in a cartoon style.

When it comes to Nina, played by Débora Falabella, what role should the once-good-now-evil character take on? These two infamous figures were illustrated by digital artist Anderson Mahanski in his own cartoon style.

In Mahanski’s interpretation, Nina becomes the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In the image below, you can see that she is not yet as villainous as her enemy Carmen, who stands in front of the mirror. Along with Carminha, another woman appears in the reflection. The character with a printed outfit and an evil grin is Zoé, a character brought to life by Regina Casé in the series “All the Flowers,” which is gaining popularity.

Mahanski’s artwork shows us that Carminha asks, “Is there any villain more powerful than me?” while Zoé laughs knowingly, being no stranger to human trafficking and abandoning her daughter.

You can check out these illustrations on Mahanski’s Instagram, where they have received thousands of likes. The representation has been divided into three parts, showing Carminha, Zoé, and Nina as Disney characters.

But which Brazilian villain will be next to make history, leaving behind a legacy of excellent acting and complex emotions? Either way, these complicated women inspire all kinds of feelings, and sometimes we can even relate to them.
